Find Joy in your Job

Match Mission with Joy at Work

The Holy Hills blog took a few simple steps toward mission this week. For many months now, I have desired to align my passion for mission in each blog post. I hope these posts and videos encourage you to take simple steps in mission every weekend so that you can discover joy every day.

Today's video is longer than usual, which gives more time to sip your favorite brew of coffee. May Jerry's story help you transform a place of employment into a ministry or mission field.

Jerry is self-employed and owns the business, Busy Bee Power Washing. He says that his business is a ministry. Very seldom does a day go by without Jerry talking to somebody about the Lord.

On Monday, I talked with Jerry twice. The first time I answered all of his questions regarding power washing our home, storage building, mail box, and front two steps. Then about four hours later, I received an additional call from Jerry. He asked me the same questions. And I gave him the same answers. Then he realized that we had already spoken over the phone. We laughed and he talked about his need of an assistant. I ended the phone conversation by sharing that I would be praying for an assistant to come his way soon.

A few days later, I met Jerry in our backyard. He pressured washed our home, storage building, mail box, and front two steps. Over the past three days, I had been praying and thinking about Jerry concerning the organization he needed for his business. Instead of Jerry taking the phone calls, he needed to focus on the power washing. Perhaps he needed a website or a part-time assistant.

Jerry finished the power washing job and payment needed to be given. He met me on the front porch, shared the amount of the service, and handed me his business card. I went into the house to write the check. I could feel this rumbling inside of me from the Spirit; Tell him what you have been praying about. I went back to the front porch, handed him the check, and gave him my thanks. He was about to turn away when I said, "Jerry, I wanted to tell you something. I have been thinking about you and praying about your business this week. I was wondering if you may need a website."

We started talking and that is when he told me his story. Listen in because you are about to receive a gift. Listen to Jerry's story and how God has changed this man to serve him every day at work, at home, and where God calls him.

The thought came to me, I have two choices here. I can either go up to Western State and ask that man to help me. Or I could go in this church and ask the Lord to help me. I said to myself well if the Lord cannot help me than that man cannot do anything for me.

I encourage you to take one simple step in mission at work by reviewing your job description, praying through the job responsibilities, or viewing your place of employment as a mission field.

Take care and Blessings to your weekend,

April H. Cranford
